Protective Parents

Wow, childhood can be really grueling!!

Psalm 124:1-8

Reference: the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us, (‭Psalm‬ ‭124‬:‭4‬ NIV)

Explore: Being a child can be tough. The other night, as a consequence for misbehaviour, one of my boys had to actually fold his own washing! Wow, childhood can be really gruelling!!

Thankfully, most children have loving, protective adults around them. These parental figures look out for them in ways the children will never even realise… until they have their own children and do the same for them!

Parents make sure their children have appropriate clothing, play in safe environments, eat the right kinds of food, watch age-relevant programs… Responsible parents are always looking out for their children’s best interests.

And often without the children even knowing what could have happened if their parents hadn’t been there.

Application: I wonder how much God does for us without us even knowing. We are His children and He has the power for divine intervention, but do we always know when He has intervened?

In Psalm 124 it speaks of what life could have been like for God’s people without Him there.  The results did not look good.

I don’t know of all the times God has intervened on my behalf, but as I read through the Bible, I see how He has played a big part in other believers’ lives. God is the same today as He was when He was helping the Israelites cross the Red Sea.

He is the same God who shut the lions’ mouths for Daniel, who instructed Noah to build a boat, who brought down the walls of Jericho and who rose again to defeat death. That is the God we worship.

If He is so powerful to be pivotal in these stories, don’t you think He is intervening for you too?

Prayer: Lord, You are all powerful and wise. May we draw on Your strength to see our way through challenging times. Amen.

What do you need divine intervention for?
