I found his tactlessness quite confronting
Reference: I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need. (Luke 11:8 NIV)
Explore: A guy I have worked with in the past was very blunt. You always knew exactly what he wanted because he would tell you point blank.
I found his tactlessness quite confronting, but I have to give him some credit. Wherever we went he always seemed to get the best seat, the first meal and exactly what he wanted.
Why? Because he always asked for it.
Sure, he sometimes came across as arrogant and bossy, but some people found him refreshingly assertive. He may not have been the most empathetic person I’ve ever met but I was always aware of where he stood.
Application: When Jesus was teaching his disciples how to pray he told them to ask God for what they wanted. In fact the term He used was “shameless audacity”.
Often people who are that blunt rub me the wrong way. And yet, God doesn’t want anything to come between us and Him.
While our God deserves the highest respect, He also deserves our honesty. Let us not make our prayers so polite that we lose touch with the intimacy of God.
Prayer: Lord, search my heart. May I push away the barriers so I can be truly honest before You. Amen.
What do you need to be honest with God about today?
