Pleasing To The Eye

In our instant world of 'faster, stronger, better' I think it's important to remember the elegant, stunning and the majestic.

Genesis 2:4-25

Reference:  v.9a  And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground – trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. (NIV Bible)

Explore:  We are currently in the very early stages of building a house.  In fact, the building has not even begun.  We are still in the 'overwhelmed' stage where we have commited to this huge project but now have to make the thousands of little decisions to make it come together.  The most stressful part for me is choosing the colours.  I know what I like and what I don't like, but as far as bringing all those colours together to look good, it doesn't always work.  I am much more on the side of 'practical and cheap' than I am on looking good.  Therefore, to stop visitors from vomiting when they see inside our new house I am in the process of recruiting friends and family who have a good eye for aesthetics to help me out.
I love that when God was 'building' the world he looked to the practical and the beautiful.  It was no slap-up job on the cheap.  He put thought into things being useful as well as 'pleasing to the eye'.  

Application:  In our instant world of 'faster, stronger, better' I think it's important to remember the elegant, stunning and the majestic.  It's all around us.  God created it all for us.  We just need to open our eyes to see it.  It could be a magnificent tree, a tiny sparrow or hint of a rainbow.  Whatever catches your eye, don't hurry on past.  Stop, smell the roses and stay a moment longer to admire it's beauty.  It is 'pleasing to the eye'.

Prayer:  Lord, all of creation shouts your praise and declares the wonder of your hands.  As a part of your creation, may we do the same today.  Amen.
