Now that Linda has completed the book of Luke, here’s one of the most popular posts from this gospel.
I would go out of my way to make other people happy.
Reference: But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.” (Luke 22:69 NIV)
Explore: As a child I was the ultimate people pleaser. I would go out of my way to make other people happy.
I would forego my own interests for another person’s sake. I would allow people to treat me poorly so I could be their friend.
All I wanted to hear was that they thought I was a good person.
As I got older that gradually changed. I matured in my understanding of people and what was important.
While I am still keen to make people feel comfortable, I don’t go against my beliefs to do so.
Application: Jesus was very clear about what was important to Him. There were times when He went out of His way for others, however, ensuring it never got in the way of His purpose and calling.
His trial was horrific and gruelling. He explained Himself to a point and then said that from now He would sit at God’s right hand.
What an incredible perspective. He had done all He could on earth and now He resigned Himself to His greater calling.
When we face challenge and persecution, we should do the same. Instead of focusing on the here and now, let’s not forget we have a greater purpose.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, may we look to Heaven when we struggle to see our way clear here on earth. Guide us to that place of peace each day. Amen.
What is your greater calling?
