So, they’re not good at doing magic!
Galatians 3:1-14
Reference: You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. (Galatians 3:1 NIV)
Explore: My 5 and 7 year old boys pretend to do magic. Just last night Mr Magic 5 said, “Watch me Linda! This bag is empty” (it was actually full) “if I wave my hand over it, abracadabra… Look, it’s now full!”
Ok, so they’re not good at doing magic, but they have strong imaginations! And fortunately I have good acting skills. As soon as the trick is complete, I “ohhhh” and “ahhhh” in wonder.
I know they are just playing and so I play along. Imagine if I thought they really were doing magic. I really would believe anything then!
Application: There are times when people think we are gullible to believe in God. They think we must be pretending or crazy to believe there is anything more out there.
Unfortunately, sometimes we do come across as slightly crazy. It’s not our love or passion that makes us unusual, it’s our prejudice, our forcefulness and our arrogance that puts people off.
Just because we believe in God does not mean we have to check our brains out at the door. We can approach our faith with intelligence and wisdom, as well as openness.
Prayer: Lord, help us to hold in balance the willingness to believe the unbelievable and the wisdom to know when it’s You. Amen.
What part of your faith may seem crazy to others?
