I know I shouldn’t be admitting this…
Reference: Again he asked, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to? (Luke 13:20 NIV)
Explore: I’ve really been challenged lately not to yell in my family as much.
I know I shouldn’t be admitting this, but yes I do yell. My children seem to be truly gifted in pushing my buttons and when they don’t do the right thing I tend to raise my voice.
It’s a quick way to get my emotions across to my disobedient children, but I know it’s not always helpful. The majority of the time a calm approach would be much more advantageous.
While this challenge is certainly testing me, there are times when I’m able to hold back my anger and get through a trying time without raising my voice. This helps to keep the whole house much calmer.
It is certainly difficult some days to maintain the calmness, but I have now proven to myself it is possible.
Application: Moments of peace can be challenging to maintain, but they are achievable.
Sometimes I feel the kingdom of God is a long way away, but Jesus made us realise it is achievable. He spoke of it numerous times and each time He did He allowed us to see its potential to grow.
There are times when we think we will only achieve God’s Kingdom when we are in heaven. However, Jesus worked hard to bring God’s Kingdom right here on earth.
This is our job too. We all have the potential to bring God’s presence into our world and into the world of the people around us.
Prayer: Lord, no matter what is going on in my life may I always be conscious of your presence. Amen.
How can you bring God’s Kingdom on earth today?
