Patiently Waiting

Don’t give up on Him.

Joshua 14:1-15

Reference: ““Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old!” ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭14:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: Anyone who knows me knows I’m not the most patient person in the world. But as I grow older I am slowly finding the benefit of waiting for the right time.

When I was in my last job I had started feeling it was time to move on. The job description no longer fulfilled the purpose I wanted in my life, so I started to pray about new opportunities.

No one was offering me any positions and, to be honest, I didn’t know where to start looking. I even got to the point of telling my boss I wanted to resign before knowing exactly where I would go to next.

But God was faithful to my decision to follow my heart and an off-the-cuff comment turned into a job interview. A month after I resigned I started at my new job.

While it doesn’t seem like a long time now, during the time of uncertainty all I had to go on was that God was faithful and He had a purpose for my life.

Application: When Caleb followed God he was given a great promise of land. But 45 years later he had not seen the result.

But Caleb was faithful and patient and he received the fullness of his reward… It was just many years later!

Now my few months of uncertainty don’t look so bad when Caleb waited 45 years! But he trusted that God would provide.

We all go through times of challenge and uncertainty. While we can’t know the future we can know our God is good.

When everything else is unknown, God is our known. He is the One we can rely on and hold onto.

Don’t give up on Him. Have the patience of Caleb knowing that whatever God has in store for us is better than anything anyone else could ever offer.

Prayer: Lord, You are the One we can trust. May we rely on You when all else seems unknown. Amen.

What are you waiting for?
