I almost talked myself out of the job.
Reference: Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. (Luke 11:17 NIV)
Explore: When I went for a job interview 12 months ago I almost talked myself out of the job.
I sat down with the two gentlemen interviewing me and told them everything I couldn’t do. Sure, I mentioned my strengths, but I also informed them of the weaknesses attached to these attributes.
It’s not that I didn’t want the job. I really did. But I wanted to make sure it was the right job… for both of us.
I had learned the hard way that if you are in a job that doesn’t fit for the employer then it will end up not fitting for the employee. And likewise if the employee does not feel the job is the right fit for them, the employer will suffer.
Both of these situations are a bad outcome for the company.
Application: Jesus knew the power of unity and the destruction that comes with division. We see it everywhere.
Division can come in social circles, organisations and churches. And it never leads to the kingdom of God flourishing.
When division occurs around us, we have two choices to make. We can either choose to take a side or we can choose to put ourselves out there to restore unity.
Unity is never easy. People have literally died for it. But whenever unity is present, powerful things can happen.
Prayer: Lord, help me to restore much needed unity in my world. Amen.
How can you go about bringing unity to a group of people?
