On The Field

Linda is currently on maternity leave. Here is one of her most popular posts from the gospel of John.

God actually calls us all to be “on the field”.

John 15:18-27

Reference: “And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.” John‬ ‭15:27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: We have recently had a couple of big sporting grand finals. One in AFL, the other in rugby.

I heard a saying when it came to professional ball games: There’s a group of men running around on the field who need a rest, watched by thousands of people cheering them on who need to exercise.

Our senior pastor mentioned this can be similar to the church. There are a small group of people who are living out the mission of the church and, although there may be supportive people watching on, God actually calls us all to be “on the field”.

Application: Jesus and his disciples were certainly a significant team working hard for God. However, Jesus never said He was the only one to do God’s work. In fact, it was quite the opposite.

Jesus calls us all to live in such a way that we proclaim God’s name and serve Him. We’re all chosen to be on His team.

Prayer: Lord, open our minds to the way we can contribute to Your team every single day. May we not sit on the sidelines, but use the gifts and abilities You have given us to serve You. Amen.

What role are you currently playing on God’s team?
