Not Just Any Kind of Bird

Once it took flight, I could truly see all that it was created to be.

Isaiah 24:1-23

Reference: v.5 The earth is defiled by its people;
they have disobeyed the laws,
violated the statutes
and broken the everlasting covenant. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: I recently saw what I thought was a hawk fly up into the top of a tree. The way the bird had landed made me think that it was more than just a common magpie or crow that I see every day.

I moved closer to the tree it had perched upon, but because it was so high up I could not make out any specific details. Sitting up in the foliage of the tree it looked like any other bird.

If it truly was a hawk then I knew it was made for greatness. The way these birds spread out their immense wingspan and soar is absolutely majestic.

However, sitting up on a branch this bird looked like any other. I stood there waiting, anticipating some movement when finally this bird took flight.

It spread its wings and with only a couple of flaps it took off over my head and regally soared away.

Application: When the animal was just sitting in the tree it could have been any common bird. However, once it took flight and started to move, I could truly see all that it was created to be.

This is true of our faith too. When we sit beside our fellow human beings we are just like them. However, once we ‘take flight’ and start living out our faith, people can see what we are truly created to be.

In Isaiah we see that God could saw the heart of His people through their actions, and it wasn’t always positive. It’s not until we start to act that people can see our hearts and what we’re created to be.

When we sit on the train, or in our cubicles at work, or in the supermarket line, we look like any other person. It’s when we start to act (offer a smile, lend a helping hand, show kindness) that people can see the love that God has created us to give.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me when I perch up on my high horse thinking that I have it all together. May I be reminded to live out my faith each and every day as a true example of who You have created me to be. Amen.

What actions can set you apart from the crowd today?
