Each item held considerable amounts of work on its own.
Reference: “Here is a list of the kings of the land that Joshua and the Israelites conquered on the west side of the Jordan, from Baal Gad in the Valley of Lebanon to Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir. Joshua gave their lands as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel according to their tribal divisions.” Joshua 12:7 NIV
Explore: At work I head up a large campaign that involves numerous departments. Last week I attended one department meeting where they discussed all the action points they needed to complete to make the campaign a success.
As I listened to their list of agenda items I was humbled at the extent of the group’s work. While the list was quite long I started to realise that each item held considerable amounts of work on its own.
To tick an item off the list numerous people had to be involved with hours of work. There was not a quick, simple task mentioned anywhere.
Application: I often find it helpful to write a list of tasks to complete or even a list of accomplishments. But a piece of paper can never hold the sacrifice and effort that goes into completing each task.
In Joshua 12 the writer lists the kings that Joshua subdued. The list is quite considerable but each name stands for thousands of people and often hours of fighting.
It’s good for us to acknowledge and celebrate our accomplishments. We don’t have to wait until we have a huge list, let’s rejoice in all the Lord has done through us, both big and small.
Prayer: Lord, there is not enough paper in our world to hold the list of all Your accomplishments. May we take note of all You have done in our lives and celebrate how good You are. Amen.
What accomplishments have happened in your life lately?
