No, I’ve Never

It’s not that I’m invincible, but I’ve never put myself in these dangerous situations

Acts 3:17-26

Reference: “Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken have foretold these days. (Acts 3:24 NIV)

Explore: I’ve never had an accident from driving faster than the speed limit; I’ve never electrocuted myself by putting a knife in the toaster; I’ve never cracked my head open by cycling without a helmet. It’s not that I’m invincible, but I have heard of stories of these things happening to other people, and so I’ve never put myself in these dangerous situations.

We can learn quickly from our own experiences, but we can also learn from other people’s as well. If we limit our education to only the things that we personally experience then we reduce the amount that we can learn.

Application: It is the same with our education of God. We are so blessed to have a God who interacts with us personally, but we don’t have to restrict our understanding of God to merely our experience of Him.

When we hear of other people’s interaction with God, our view of the Almighty is expanded and we are reminded of His power beyond that which we experience and understand.

The disciples had just had an intense spiritual experience by witnessing the resurrection of Jesus and the fulfilment of the Holy Spirit. However, they didn’t stop at that. They looked back into their history of strong believers and drew on the knowledge of the prophets.

This is true for us too. No matter how much we connect with God personally, it is essential that we learn from other believers and continue to read the Bible to learn from great believers who have gone before us.

Prayer: Lord, we benefit so much from Your interaction with us personally. But You are so much greater than just Your connection with one person. May we not limit You, but be open to how great You are to all people. Amen.

What have you learned about God from someone else?
