Explore: We live in very interesting times where a news item can go viral before it’s even verified. Those scrutinised in this way, more than most, are movie stars and political leaders.

Just a couple of weeks ago a message of an important meeting at Buckingham Palace got out of hand. While it came to the media’s attention when it was overnight in England, it was the middle of the day in Australia and so everyone quickly started speculating what the meeting could be about.

While Prince Phillip stepping down from formal duties is a big deal, it wasn’t half as big as all the possibilities that were being bandied about. While the commotion around this was laughable, I must say we are fortunate to be in this privileged position.

We don’t live in a dictatorship when leaders’ behaviours are not held to account, but we have the freedom to express our thoughts and opinions openly.

Application: In the Bible we read about many different leaders, both good and evil. But the message God has for all leaders is that they should rule justly and as God leads His people.

In our world today we still have a variety of leaders in power but it’s important to look at ourselves. How do we lead?

There are always people we lead whether it’s at work, in the family or even amongst friends. We have influence in a variety of areas.

If we were being watched carefully, how would we fare? It’s important to keep in mind God’s plan for leadership and hold true to who He has called us to be – just and fair.

Prayer: Lord, leadership can be so challenging, particularly at times when people confront us or disagree with us. Help us to lead as You would have us lead, with love and not greed. Amen.

How are you leading at the moment?
