A New Song

With each new song Brett falls even more in love with his band.

Psalm 96:1-13

Reference: Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. (‭Psalm‬ ‭96‬:‭1‬ NIV)

Explore: A friend of mine, Brett, loves music. I don’t believe he has ever played a musical instrument before, but he certainly appreciates the music they make.

He has a good appreciation for a whole variety of genres, but with his favourite artists he is completely committed. He will follow their progress, go to every possible concert and waits with anticipation for any new song they might release.

With each new song Brett falls even more in love with his band. He will pick up the new lyrics straight away and listen to the whole album on repeat.

It seems the only thing that will change his love for that album is when they release another one.

To me, they all sound the same. But to Brett each song is a priceless work of art.

Application: When the psalmist talks about praising God he mentions singing a new song to the Lord. I wonder if we should approach this challenge just like Brett approaches a new song from his favourite band.

A new song is a new opportunity to fall more and more in love with God. A new verse is an opportunity to declare our admiration for our Creator.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, I pray for a new song in my soul that I can worship my God. Amen.

What new song can you sing to God?
