Naughty Behaviour

Maybe I should give myself time out!

Psalm 58:1-11

Reference: Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward, spreading lies. (Psalm 58:3 NIV)

Explore: All of humanity is really a lost cause.

My 8 month old grandson is already naughty. He pulls at any piece of jewellery he can get his hands on and takes whatever he desires.

Although he’s only little he gets in the way when I’m in the kitchen and is determined to put himself in danger.

My five year old is no better. He’s decided that stealing is the best way to get what he wants and lies make his life sound more exciting.

But even as I set consequences for both these children in my home, I realise I am far from perfect. I lose my temper far too easily and put my own needs before others. Maybe I should give myself time out!

Application: There is no doubt that we are fallen, but I guess that’s what makes God’s grace so amazing. For Him to pick us up, He lowered Himself to be beside us and was the ultimate example of how we should live.

I know that in Psalm 58 the writer was talking about the evil of his enemy, but really the whole of humanity should be a lost cause. But God sees our value. He notices us and invites us to be at our best.

May we not stay comfortably in our wrong doing but rise to all that Christ showed us we could be.

Prayer: Lord, forgive our wrong doing. From our selfishness and greed to our hate and lust. May we strive to be more like You. Amen.

How far are you from your best?
