Mystery Flights

You would just get to the airport first thing in the morning and expect anything for the day

Explore: I’ve recently recalled that an airline in Australia used to do Mystery Flights. This is where you would pay a set ticket price but you wouldn’t know where your finally destination would be.

You would just get to the airport first thing in the morning and expect anything for the day. This was a great present idea for someone who is up for an adventure.

While the passenger had no idea of where their journey would take them, the airline had it all in hand. They knew exactly where you would be heading and how.

It was a mystery to the traveller but not to the ones who were in control.

Application: Sometimes my life feels a bit like a mystery flight: I’m not sure where I am heading and so I need to rely on the One who is in control.

For a routine, organised person like me, this brings great concern. I like to know exactly where I’m going and how I’m getting there.

But life isn’t always like that. Particularly life with God.

Thankfully we can rely on the One who is in control. We don’t always know the reason but He does.

We usually only see the reason well after the journey has ended. Joseph’s life explains this.

He experienced rejection from his family, deception and imprisonment. But at the end he saw the path that God had opened up because of his hardship.

Struggles and pain are hard to endure and it’s often difficult to see the purpose behind them. As Christians we are blessed to have faith in a loving God.

Not only does He hold us through the pain but He refines us through the process.

Prayer: Lord, it’s so easy to think how much better life would be if we didn’t have to endure struggles. And yet we trust Your purpose and the growth we can make in You through all our circumstances. Amen.

What have you learned from a struggle in your life?
