Mum’s Lamb Roast

Never am I more content than when she does a roast.

Psalm 63:1-11

Reference: “I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭63:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: My mum loves on people by cooking for them. It’s not often that you will visit my mum without consuming some yummy morsel of food.

I’m fortunate enough to be blessed by my mother’s cooking a lot. And never am I more content than when she does a roast.

It doesn’t matter if it’s lamb, pork or beef, mum will fill our plates with roast pumpkin, potatoes, broccoli, baked zucchini, peas and any other accompaniment she’s created in the kitchen. And just when you feel full to bursting, she’ll bring out dessert.

My favourite is plum crumble with custard and ice cream, but mum can do a mean trifle as well.

These are the types of meals that make you undo the top button of your pants as you slump onto the couch. There is no doubt that you leave completely satisfied.

Application: Now, I am regularly satisfied with food from my mother’s kitchen, but today I read in Psalm 63 that the writer was fully satisfied by God.

While I am more than happy to spend time at my mother’s table being satisfied by her food, I’ve been challenged as to whether I’ve spent that much time at God’s table to be satisfied by Him. It’s been a long time since I’ve exhausted myself in worship or fully completed all my prayer time. I regularly satisfy myself with food, but have not put that kind of priority on God.

And, while my mother’s food is five star rated, nothing can truly satisfy us like God can. He can fulfil our deepest needs and satisfy our greatest hunger.

Life gets busy and other things jump ahead in the line of priorities, but let us not forget to immerse ourselves completely in God and seek our satisfaction from Him.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for being the One who satisfies us completely. We can look in many other places but no one can fulfil us like You do. Thank You for being gracious enough to care for all our needs. Amen.

How are you going to make time to allow God to fulfil you today?
