He thinks it might be considered rude
Reference: Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” (Luke 20:22 NIV)
Explore: A friend of mine has found the perfect job. It suits his skill base, connects with his previous experience and complements his values.
He would be perfect for the position, but the problem is the pay isn’t quite enough. He has a final interview where he could ask his potential employers about it, but he is nervous about bringing it up.
His family never discuss money. And so, he thinks it might be considered rude in the interview and give the wrong impression about how keen he is to work in the job.
I must admit that I find it hard to talk about money with employers too. Although everyone knows it’s a key part of getting a job, it’s often an awkward topic.
Application: Jesus was never nervous to talk about money despite it clearly being a delicate topic in that day too. In fact, when the religious leaders were trying to trip Him up, they brought up the topic of money.
It didn’t seem to bother Jesus as it wasn’t a priority for Him like it was for others. He always seemed to address the topic of money head on.
I wonder if money wasn’t as big of a focus for us whether we would be able to talk about it more openly too.
Prayer: Lord, I pray that money will not have a hold on my life. May I speak openly and honestly about those things that are truly important. Amen.
How awkward is money for you?
