At times we could guess what the other person is thinking
Reference: “Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey.”” Exodus 24:7 NIV
Explore: I hate to admit it but after fifteen years of marriage I still expect my husband to read my mind. Sure, we now know each other so well that at times we could guess what the other person is thinking, however, we’ve never quite conquered mind reading completely!
It’s no surprise that in all our pre-marriage training we talk about communication.
I have to remind myself to not get frustrated at my husband when he doesn’t do something I would like him to do.
When I stop and reflect on the situation I usually discover that I haven’t actually told him what I would like, therefore, it’s unreasonable for me to expect him to know what I want.
Using my words certainly goes a long way.
Application: God was very clear in His communication with His people through Moses. In fact, He was so clear that Moses was able to write God’s commands down.
The people responded in the same fashion. Once they had heard God’s commands they were clear in telling God their intention: “We will obey.”
God now speaks to us in many different ways. He still uses written word to guide us and give us instruction. He can also show us signs and speak to us through other people and situations.
There are lots of ways we can speak back to God. Prayer is a good one, but I often find I consider God in conversations I have with other people. As I speak to them I know God is also listening.
May we never stop communicating with God. He can read our minds, but He knows the importance of clear communication.
Prayer: Lord, You hear my thoughts and You know my heart. May I continue to share myself with You, every single day. Amen.
How do you communicate best with God?
