What started out as an inconceivable amount of money soon whittled down to very little.
Reference: One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. (Psalm 27:4 NIV)
Explore: My daughter recently asked me what I would do with a million dollars.
My instant response was to pay off our mortgage. Sure, there would still be a reasonable sum of money left over, but knowing that financial weight was off my shoulders would be amazing.
We then spoke of charities, new cars and overseas trips. What started out as an inconceivable amount of money soon whittled down to very little.
Application: If you could have one wish granted, what would it be? An endless bank account? A lifetime of health? More wishes?!
While all these things have crossed my mind, the psalmist puts me to shame. His wish was to be with God forever.
The great thing about this wish is that we can all have it! If we love God and follow Christ then we will have eternal life with Him. We don’t need a genie in a bottle or an exorbitant amount of money, we just need to accept the grace that God freely gives.
Prayer: Lord, there is so much in this world that entices us. But deep down we know that You are all we need and all we should seek. May our hearts and minds be firmly focused upon You. Amen.
If you had one wish, what would it be?
