As I listened to the chorus blast out through my car speakers I was really challenged about how I should live my life.
Reference: v.14 And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power? (TNIV Bible)
Explore: Have you felt emotionally moved just from one song? The other day I was in my car listening to my music when Michael Paynter’s ‘Love the Fall’ song started to play. I’ve always enjoyed listening to this song but this time I really started listening to the words. The chorus spoke to me really powerfully as the lyrics sung out,
So what if I dive off the edge of my life
And there’s nothing beneath?
What if I live like there’s nothing to lose
Just to die on my knees?
At least I’ll know
I walked the dark
I took the scars
I risked it all
And learned to love the fall
As I listened to the chorus blast out through my car speakers I was really challenged about how I should live my life. I’m such a cautious control freak that I don’t often step outside into the unknown. The thought of taking a risk is always far from my mind. And yet I felt challenged as I listened to this song to have more courage in what I do. When I finish my life could I claim that I had risked it all for a greater purpose?
Application: Just like feeling moved by this song in my car I often come across verses in the Bible that jump out at me and give me greater meaning. Job’s declaration of God’s power in verse 14 is one of those verses. He speaks of God’s grandeur and then says that this is just a whisper compared to the fullness of his almighty power. It’s impossible for us to know God’s might but these verses help us to put it into some perspective. When you read a verse or hear that song that grabs you, stop and consider what God is saying to you through that emotion.
Prayer: Lord, You often use other people’s words or music to connect to us. May we sit up and take note of those meaningful moments and strive to live a life that gives glory to You. Amen.
Whose words have brought deeper meaning to your life?
