I’m realistic enough to know that if I did ever get the opportunity to be face-to-face with them, I would clam up!
Reference: Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted,
“Hosanna!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Mark 11:9 NIV)
Explore: If you could meet anyone in the whole world, who would it be? A sports star, a political giant, a singing phenomenon, an academic hero?
There are a number of great people in this world that I would feel honoured to meet; people who have impacted me from afar. However, I’m realistic enough to know that if I did ever get the opportunity to be face-to-face with them, I would clam up!
How do you express love and appreciation to someone who doesn’t know you? It’s a real balance between showing your admiration, but still acting cool so they are impressed in return!
Application: It’s highly unlikely that I would ever meet my hero, although it is guaranteed that I will meet my ultimate role model – Jesus. How will I respond?
Will I be lost for words or suddenly get verbal diarrhoea? Will I bask in His glory or fall to my knees in honour?
It’s hard to know what I’ll do when I meet my Saviour face-to-face, but I have plenty of opportunities to practice in the meantime. I believe that, while I may not always get a glimpse of Him, Jesus is well aware of me and what I am doing.
Therefore, no matter what I do throughout the day, I should act in such a way as if my hero is watching.
Prayer: Lord, at times we can get so wrapped up in our own lives that we forget to make You a key part of it. May we be reminded of Your constant presence in our lives and live in such a way that we would make You proud. Amen.
How would you act if your hero was watching?
