When it came to hearing from God I got the same sense as when I’ve had to make other decisions.
Reference: He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, (2 Timothy 1:9 NIV)
Explore: I recently had to make a decision between two job opportunities. The jobs were quite different from each other and each had pros and cons according to my strengths and the impact they would have on my family.
I continually weighed them up in my mind, I spoke about them to close friends and, of course, I prayed to God for wisdom. When it came to hearing from God I got the same sense as when I’ve had to make other decisions.
My faith tells me that God will go with me no matter what decision I make. And my call to be His disciple determines that, no matter what job I am involved in, I am to represent Him with my competence and character.
I’m always slightly disappointed by this knowledge. Only because I hate making big decisions and I’d love for God just to tell me exactly what I should do. But I find He often leaves those decisions up to me so that I commit completely to what I have decided.
Application: In 2 Timothy, Paul talks about each of us being called to a holy life. He doesn’t say that we’re all called to be nurses or accountants or carpenters; we’re called to be holy.
That means, no matter where we are, what we are doing or who we are with, we are to reflect His character.
That’s why the kingdom of God is so diverse, because we can actually bring God’s holiness into any situation.
God desires for all of humanity to be holy. It’s up to us to show others what that would look like.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your promise to always be with us. Help us to reveal Your character in all areas of our lives. Amen.
How can you display God’s holiness today?
