Lust For Life

We are all guilty of lusting for the frivolous, but we don’t have to continue to do so.

Ezekiel 23:1-49

Reference: She too lusted after the Assyrians—governors and commanders, warriors in full dress, mounted horsemen, all handsome young men. (Ezekiel 23:12 NIV)

Explore: What do you lust for? We all have intense desires. Some are for fame, others for fortune, and others can lust for perfection in a specific field.

Lust is a strong word, but it’s also a driving force. It’s usually used to explain uncontrolled passions, but we are all in control of the choices we make.

There are some lusts we need to keep in check, whereas there are some things in this world that we should be even more fervent to change. We will have strong desires but it’s good to remember that we are all in control of those passions, and it’s up to us to discern whether they are the healthiest options.

Application: God was quite blunt when it came to the lustfulness of Samaria and Jerusalem. When we read about their choices in the analogy of Ezekiel 23, their decisions seem frivolous and destructive.

I guess that’s how God views our choices too, when we run after things that don’t last. We are all guilty of lusting for the frivolous, but we don’t have to continue to do so.

May we learn from Samaria and Jerusalem, may we understand the choices we make will impact our futures, and may we strive to lust after God with such a passion that every other desire falls in line with His will.

Prayer: Lord, may we focus our eyes upon You. May the decisions we make today help to keep us on track for the future. Amen.

What is it that you are passionate about?
