In fact there are daily occurrences of her losing things in the abyss that is her room.
Jeremiah 31:1-40
Reference: v.10 "Hear the word of the Lord, O nations; proclaim it in distant coastlands: 'He who scattered Israel will gather them and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.'" (NIV Bible)
Explore: I really don't like losing things and so I try to have a place for every thing I need access to. If I can't find my mobile phone I only need to look in one of three places to find it as I will never put it anywhere else. My sixteen year old daughter, on the other hand, does not have the same passion for order as I do. In fact there are daily occurrences of her losing things in the abyss that is her room. One time she had been given tickets to see the tennis – her favourite sport. But no matter how hard she tried to recall, she could not remember where she had put her tickets. All she could remember was that she put them in a 'safe place', but clearly it was so safe that even she couldn't find them! Time was running out and I was starting to lose hope. Instead of thinking where the tickets could be I started thinking of how I should respond if we never found them. But just as I was about to change our plans she finally found them. Not surprisingly they were exactly where she had left them! I was so relieved that she had found them and she was so delighted that she would still be able to watch her favourite sport live.
Application: It is so frustrating when we lose things that are valuable to us. We often don't realise how important something is or how much value we place upon it until we don't have it any more. If we get frustrated about losing a phone or some tickets imagine how God feels when he loses a relationship with a person. We can hear his anguish, grief and maybe even frustration through the prophets of the Old Testament when they try to alert the people to their rebellion. And yet, when the relationship is renewed God expresses much joy and blessing. There are 'shouts for joy' and people 'will dance and be glad'. God values every one of us. He desires for us to be in close relationship with Him. When we are apart there is mourning and sorrow and yet when we come to be in His presence there is much joy and blessing.
Prayer: Lord, its such a delight for us to know that we are more precious to You than any other object or possession. May we realise the fruit of our relationship with You and draw close to You daily. Amen.
Do you realise how much God loves finding you?
