Yesterday I borrowed a pencil sharpener from a colleague. This wasn’t just any ordinary sharpener but a battery powered one. You just inserted the pencil into the hole at the top and the blade automatically went around, sharpening the pencil.
It was so easy to use and so quick to sharpen the bucket full of pencils I had. I hit a snag, however, after about the fifth pencil. The container holding all the wooden shards was starting to fill up and I couldn’t work out how to empty it. I pushed the top, I pressed every spot that looked like it could be a button, I opened the battery compartment, I turned it around and around but could not work out how to open it.
When I was convinced I had covered every angle I asked another colleague if she knew how it opened. She pushed the top, pressed every spot that looked like it could be a button, opened the battery compartment, turned it around and around but could not work out how to open it.
At least I wasn’t alone in my stupidity! It looked like it should be so simple but we just couldn’t work it out.
So, I did what everyone does when they’re looking for an answer, I googled it! Sure enough there was a YouTube clip that went for 47 seconds that explained how to open that particular pencil sharpener.
I quickly clicked play and was on the edge of my seat waiting to hear of the mystical, secret button that magically opened the container. The gentleman in the video was slow to start but gradually revealed that the very top of the container that surrounded the sharpening device was a screwtop lid. So you just had to unscrew the top and the wooden shards were free to go.
So simple! For a moment I felt a little silly but then I remembered my other colleague hadn’t been able to work out how to open the container either.
In fact, so many people were so confused about how to open the container someone made a YouTube clip to explain it! And I was the 125,074th person to watch it.
Some things in life are easy and come naturally. But there are certain things that are very challenging and it helps for us to get guidance and wisdom on them. It’s good to give things a try, and to even ask others for advice. But let’s not forget to bring our challenges to a higher power. In fact God is the highest power.
And He contains more knowledge than the whole internet! He will lead you and guide you if you invite Him to.
Lord, Your wisdom far surpasses anything here on earth. May we draw to You for knowledge and understanding of our works today. Amen.
How can you share God’s wisdom today?
