What we see on the surface is very rarely the whole of someone’s reality.
Reference: “Jacob fled to the country of Aram; Israel served to get a wife, and to pay for her he tended sheep.” Hosea 12:12 NIV
Explore: It’s funny that people’s perceptions are often quite removed from reality.
I used to work in breakfast radio. My reality was getting up ridiculously early and having to juggle many different tasks.
All anyone else seemed to hear was that I was working with the semi-famous and had a dream job. What we see on the surface is very rarely the whole of someone’s reality.
While some people might perceive that we have “made it” we have never reached our pinnacle. There is always more to achieve and greater tasks to conquer.
Application: It’s funny when we look back on Biblical history and we think of the people who “made it”. None of them achieved great things through easy means.
Hosea even outlined some of the greatest men of our faith and even they had mighty challenges to conquer.
Let’s not look at someone else’s final destination and compare ourselves to them. We don’t know the challenges they have faced and nor do we need to.
May we stay focussed on our own journey and live our life to the fullest, that’s certainly how Jesus showed us to live.
Prayer: Lord, may I stop comparing myself to others and live the life You have called me to. Give me the strength to endure the challenges, knowing there is something greater on the other side. Amen.
What great task are your working through at the moment?
