Look Into The Future

Asking this important question helps us to determine whether the situation is going to have a long-term effect on our lives.

Isaiah 25:1-12

Reference: v.1 Lord , you are my God;
I will exalt you and praise your name,
for in perfect faithfulness
you have done wonderful things,
things planned long ago. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: In the last week I heard a sermon and a radio segment mention the same sentiment: “Will this matter a year from now?”

When something happens in our lives it means a great deal to us. We are filled with emotions and thoughts that impact how we react to situations that come our way.

This statement makes me stop and consider the reactions that I have. Although something may trigger great emotions in me at the time, it’s good to stop and look at the bigger picture.

Asking this important question helps us to determine whether the situation is going to have a long-term effect on our lives.

There may be some situations that do, however, most everyday troubles and concerns that come our way will not be remembered in a years time (often not even remembered the next month!)

Application: God knows what will be important to us in a year’s time. Sometimes it’s hard for us to know, but He has planned great things for each of us many years ago.

The question ‘will this matter a year from now?’ helps us to see things from God’s perspective.

God could so easily get frustrated with us when we focus on small things that have little impact. However, He does not patronize us for being small minded. He still loves us and offers us grace.

However, I think that He would want us to consider this question so that we live our lives focusing on what is important so that we can be the best He has created us to be.

Prayer: Lord, help us to look to the bigger picture when troubles come our way. Help us get a greater perspective of all You have in store for us. Amen.

With the challenges you are facing today, will they matter a year from now?
