Look Busy

Deep down inside I know that I would suddenly get into a busied frenzy if I thought that Jesus was about to turn up.

Luke 12:35-59

Reference:  v.38  It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second of third watch of the night.  (NIV Bible)

Explore:  There is a rather humorous slogan that is found on t-shirts, bumper stickers and posters that says, “Jesus is Coming… Look busy!”  I find this quite funny because, even though I know it is ridiculous to try to pull the wool over Jesus’ eyes, I know that deep down inside I would suddenly get into a busied frenzy if I thought that Jesus was about to turn up.  Of course, this is totally crazy.  He already knows what we were doing before He turned up and He can see right through our busy facade anyway.

Application:  When Jesus instructed his followers to be like a servant that is always ready, He was teaching us how we should live our lives.  To have integrity means that we are always willing to display God’s love and be servants to all, and not just to put it on when someone is watching us.  Yes, there are definitely times when we should rest and relax, but that does not mean that we hang up our Christian values.  I remember someone telling me about one time when they visited a local church for the very first time.  The welcomer at the door came right up to them and started chatting to them.  The welcomer was very friendly and inviting but as they handed them the bulletin for the day they noticed the date on the front page.  ‘Oh,’ they said, ‘I’m not on welcoming today.’  And with that they turned around and walked away!  If we want to represent Christ then we need to up hold His values at all times.  We don’t just turn them on when someone is watching or when we are rostered on.  True disciples display Christ’s love to all people at all times.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for always showing us Your love and grace.  May we be more like You and display this love each and every day too.  Amen.

If someone were to look at your life would they see someone who always displays Christ’s characteristics or someone who only ‘looks busy’?
