Like My Father

I still reflect on what would make him proud.

John 13:31-38

Explore: It was not unexpected when my father passed away, but it was still very sad. The pain in my heart was different to anything I’d ever experienced before.

Even though it has been some years since that devastating day, I still find myself thinking of my dad and even seeing him in other people. A gentleman might look like him or a man might talk like him. It’s like he’s never too far away.

Just the other day I considered the decisions I was making in my own life and wondered what Dad would think of them. I still reflect on what would make him proud.

Application: Jesus was only on this earth for a short period of time and only with his disciples for a couple of years. His disciples were committed to learning from Him and following His actions.

When Jesus said He was going to leave them, they must have been distraught that they wouldn’t have Him to show the way. But just like with me and my father, the disciples had learned a great deal from Jesus, therefore, they had the ability to keep acting like Jesus, even after He was gone.

We have the same chance today. Through learning about Jesus, and how He lived on earth, we are able to replicate the love and grace Jesus showed.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the great example You have set for us. May we strive to make decisions based on Your love and life. Amen.
