She used to attend church regularly
Reference: “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’ ” (Luke 16:31 NIV)
Explore: A friend of mine refuses to believe in God. No matter what I say or do, her heart seems totally hardened towards a relationship with God.
It wasn’t always this way. She used to attend church regularly and was even involved in her local uni Christian group.
However, through a bad relationship and an insensitive church leader, she fell away from God.
Knowledge is not the problem. She knows how churches function and remembers a great deal from the Bible. But her personal faith seems to have disappeared.
Application: There is no doubt I will continue to speak to my friend about my own faith and will continue to pray for her reunification with God. However, it is her choice as to whether she will accept Him again.
In this parable Jesus tells of a rich man going to hell and seeing Abraham up in Heaven. He desires for his family to be warned of what lies beyond the grave, but Abraham refuses him.
He is told there are already many warnings right in front of them, but yet their hearts are still hardened. It is the same for us too.
God fills our world with evidence of His reality. We just need to trust Him to be able to see it.
Prayer: Lord, may our eyes be opened to Your glory. May we strive to show others of Your majesty that lies ahead for us. Amen.
How much can you see of what lies ahead?
