I had no faith that I would ever be able to stand up on the moving board
Reference: v.6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all peoples see his glory. (TNIV Bible)
Explore: On a recent holiday my husband booked us in for a surfing lesson. I was so apprehensive as I’m not really the athletic type, and had no faith that I would ever be able to stand up on the moving board.
I was so nervous as we went through the beginning of our lesson on land, but with a great teacher and a bit of practice, my confidence built.
I totally amazed myself that I actually got up on the board and surfed my very first wave. I was so excited that I even posted a photo of this unbelievable occurrence (taken by the surfing school) on my Facebook page.
A number of my friends posted comments congratulating me on such an impressive feat, however, there were a few who saw the photo but did not believe it.
“Did you photoshop this pic?” was the question asked by a number of people who saw the photo. I was offended that they didn’t think that I could actually do it, and hurt that they thought I would actually spend time photoshopping myself into a photo to make it look like I could surf.
Although the same evidence was before all my Facebook friends, it seems that some believed and some didn’t.
Application: The Psalms have a beautiful way of expressing God’s amazing power and glory, particularly in reference to creation. As a believer, Psalm 97 helps to remind me of God’s amazing creation.
And yet, verse 6 made me realize that I’m not the only one who is witness to God’s awesomeness. In fact, EVERYONE (“all peoples”) see God’s glory. This does not mean that they all credit it to God, but they all have the ability to witness it.
Just like my surfing photo – everyone had the ability to see it, however, not everyone was willing to credit me for it. God created all great things. He does not always get the acknowledgement for His amazing power and glory, but we can give Him the honor that He is due.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your magnificence. We may often miss the part you play in our lives, and so, we give you the praise for the good that does take place. Amen.
What can you credit God for in your life today?
