Labour In Vain

The amount of garden that has been cleared up is only a thirtieth of what I still need to accomplish.

Psalm 127:1-5

Reference: “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭127:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: Our garden needs a lot of work done to it. Over the last few years of neglect, the trees and bushes have gotten out of control.

After spending a whole afternoon in our garden, I will finish with a pile of clippings that is higher than I am tall. And yet the amount of garden that has been cleared up is only a thirtieth of what I still need to accomplish.

We recently had a plumbing issue and we had to get a small digger in to assist. While the digger was on our property we asked them to clear a small portion of our garden.

In less than 30 minutes they had cleared an area that would have taken me days to complete. The power and force of this machinery was far greater than anything I could do.

Application: It’s humbling to come up against something or someone who is so far greater than you. However, when it came to my garden I was glad to have the assistance.

God is like that small digger in our lives. He has the capacity and the power for so much more than we could ever accomplish.

The great thing is that we don’t have to feel threatened by this power but humbled that God would use His power to help us and connect with us.

Psalm 127 is a great reminder for us not to toil and struggle on our own. Work hard for the things that God is also working towards as His power is far greater than ours could ever be.

Prayer: Lord, You are all powerful and Your strength never fails. Help me to fall in line with what You are working towards so I can join Your team. Amen.

Where do you need God’s strength in your life?
