Knowing The Future

She realises how difficult it is to speak of things that will happen without people thinking she is crazy.

Amos 5:1-27

Reference: “This is what the Sovereign Lord says to Israel: “Your city that marches out a thousand strong will have only a hundred left; your town that marches out a hundred strong will have only ten left.”” ‭‭Amos‬ ‭5:3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: I once watched a fictitious show where a lady goes back in time. Due to her knowledge of history she remembers that certain battles are still to be won and there are still some significant steps to be taken in the advancement of medicine.

When she tries to explain these futuristic concepts to the people she is laughed at and chided. She realises how difficult it is to speak of things that will happen without people thinking she is crazy.

Application: I wonder if that is how the prophets felt. They had heard a word from God about what would happen to the people and yet the people often did not want to hear what would come to pass.

I respect the prophets so much. They were often excluded and rebuked even though they were the ones speaking the truth.

There are times when we may be looked down upon for speaking up. The truth is not always what people want to hear.

But may we have the courage of the prophets, who spoke God’s words clearly, so that people could change and chose the right path.

Prayer: Lord, give me Your courage to speak up when needed. May I stand on love and grace and peace, even when others are not. Amen.

What are you being challenged to speak up about?
