Jesus Impersonators

I think the most impersonated person at the moment would have to be Barack Obama, the President of the United States of America.  I hear people trying to mimick his voice everywhere, even in Australia.

Mark 16:1-20

Reference: v.20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it. (NIV Bible)

Explore: I think impersonators are very clever.  I often see comedians trying to take-off someone famous, and if they do it well they can be very impressive.  I think the most impersonated person at the moment would have to be Barack Obama, the President of the United States of America.  I hear people trying to mimick his voice everywhere, even in Australia.  Nearly every company and organisation seems to have incorporated his ‘Yes we can’ speech into their advertising.  Now, I think it’s very clever to be able to change your voice to sound like a politician, singer or actor but you have to go to a whole other level if you want to actually act like that person.  To fully impersonate someone’s voice, looks and actions you have to spend a great deal of time observing that person and noticing the obvious as well as all the little idiosyncrasies.  When you have all of those elements working together then you become a successful impersonator.

Application: As Christians we are suppose to be Jesus-impersonators.  We need to talk as he talked, love like he loves, respond like he responds.  To do that, we need to study Jesus’ words and his actions.  It’s one thing to be able to espouse the words of wisdom that Jesus shared and sound like him, but to be a true Jesus-impersonator we need to act like he acts.  Let’s not leave our Jesus impersonations just to the sound of his voice, but may our whole lives represent Jesus’ live.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for walking on this earth so that we could be given the best example of how we should live.  Help us to not just speak the words but to be a complete impersonator of your love.  Amen.

Who do you know that impersonates Jesus well?  What steps do you need to take in your life to continue impersonating Jesus?
