Jesus’ Bucket List

Having only a few months to live they write a list of all the things they would like to do before they 'kick the bucket'.

Explore:  If you could do anything at all in your life, what would it be?  If money was no issue, education was no issue, your family situation was no issue, and you could decide to do anything at all with your life, what would you choose to do?  In the movie, The Bucket List, two gentlemen are confronted with their mortality.  Having only a few months to live they write a list of all the things they would like to do before they 'kick the bucket'.  As one of the men is a millionaire, price is no limit and so they head out on their adventure.  They go sky diving, drive sleek sports cars and get tattoos.  It really makes you think, what would I do if I were in the same situation?

Application:  When Jesus was on earth God's 'fullness dwelt within him'.  While he was still a man, he had all of God's power revealed to him.  When he knew he had been betrayed and was heading towards his death, he made a decision of what he would do with his life.  Jesus was in the same situation as the gentlemen on The Bucket List.  He could have headed off on a grand adventure or maybe a better solution would have been to gather an army to protect himself.  But what did Jesus do?  When Jesus knew his time was coming to an end he made his own bucket list.  If fact he actually picked up a bucket with a towel and washed his disciples feet.  In all the things that Jesus could have done in his last hours, he served his disciples.  It is so humbling to think that Jesus' bucket list was not to fulfil his own pleasures but to serve others.

Prayer:  Lord, the love and humility you showed when you lived on earth is mind blowing.  May we strive to walk in the same foot steps.  Amen.
