It’s Too Full

There are times when I fill my life with so many other things that I often don’t leave room for God.

Psalm 10:1-18

Reference: In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. (Psalm 10:4 NIV)

Explore: I was recently packing my bags for a short trip away. I decided I would only need a small bag as I would not be away for long, and I hate lugging large bags around unnecessarily.

I was very systematic in my packing and soon had all the essential clothing placed neatly in the bag. It fitted perfectly. On one side I had my pyjamas, underwear and extra footwear; on the other side I had additional sets of clothes and some reading material.

I zipped the bag up perfectly and was feeling so pleased with my packing ability. Until I realised something I had forgotten to pack… my toiletries! This bulky little bag of essentials was never going to fit in my already snug fitting luggage! But there was no way I was leaving without them, and so, I had a decision to make: take some clothes out or get a bigger bag!

Application: Just like toiletries are essential for me to travel with so, too, is God necessary in my life. However, there are times when I fill my life with so many other things that I consider important, that I often don’t leave room for God. And yet, we all have a decision to make. If we truly believe that God is important, then we either have to remove the excess in our lives or start expanding our capabilities.

It’s easy to look at that which we currently have and excuse ourselves from fitting God in. We’re busy, our lives are crazy, there are others vying for our time. But let’s not be like the enemy mentioned in Psalm 10, who thinks he has everything without God.

When we include God in our lives, that is when we discover what full and complete really means. Let’s not fool ourselves into thinking that we can fill ourselves, as the only One who truly completes us is Christ.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me when I push You aside and focus on other things I consider important. Help me to fill up on You first and foremost and never take You out of my life’s luggage. Amen.

What often fills your life and pushes out the God space?
