It’s For Free

I was so speechless that she would give us something for nothing that I almost didn’t say thank you.

Psalm 106:1-48

Reference: v.45 for their sake he remembered his covenant
and out of his great love he relented. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: The other day I went out into our local shopping strip with a colleague to record some vox pops from those out in the community.

We just had a couple of simple questions that we wanted to talk about on our radio show, and so we thought we would get some answers from the general public. Whilst most people were a little hesitant to begin with, once they heard the simple questions they were happy to oblige.

Walking past the local fruit and vegetable shop we stopped to ask a sales assistant our questions. She seemed fairly busy, but she was happy to help us out.

As we turned around to leave her shop she called us back and handed us each a free mandarin. I was so speechless that she would give us something for nothing that I almost didn’t say thank you.

Not only had this lady given us her time and her thoughts, but she had continued to give to us by handing over some of her produce.

Application: Rarely do we receive something for nothing. To enter a “free raffle” you need to give your details, which they will then sell onto a marketing company.

I regularly see the sign “get one free” but it usually precedes the statement “buy three”!

I think that’s where people struggle to trust God as it is not in our nature to believe that we get something for nothing. Not only does God give us something for nothing, but He continually gives to us even when we have already received so much from Him.

While the fruit and vegie lady was very generous to some random strangers, this is nothing on the extent that God gives to us.

It is good to remind ourselves that no matter what we’ve done or where we’ve been, God will continue to keep His promise to us and never leave us or forsake us.

Prayer: Lord, there are things in our lives that we are not proud of. May we put them behind us as we recall your unending love for us. Amen.

What is there in your life that you need God’s unending love to cover?
