Nothing compares to the sweet, melted goodness only chocolate can produce
Reference: And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her. Genesis 39:10 NIV
Explore: It’s rare for a day to go by without me thinking about chocolate.
Yes, you read correctly… chocolate! I’d love to say I was so holy and spiritual that my mind never wandered far from Christ’s call on my life, however, it’s amazing how often I will find myself thinking about chocolate!
It’s one of my favourite things. No matter how healthy I try to become, nothing compares to the sweet, melted goodness only chocolate can produce.
No matter where I go, my love of chocolate will follow me! It’s always at the back of my mind and it’s almost too easy to access.
Application: Unfortunately, this is the same with all temptations. Even if you conquer it once, it doesn’t mean it goes away completely.
I’ve spoken to people who have attended Alcoholics Anonymous and they say they are still an alcoholic, it’s just that they haven’t had a drink for so many years. The temptation doesn’t go away, but the amount of time you’ve controlled it does change.
Joseph found himself in a tempting situation. Never did he say he wasn’t interested in Potiphar’s wife, but he knew it was the wrong thing to do. She, however, continued to persist.
Life is not always fair or easy, but the integrity Joseph showed in resisting temptation is a great example to us today. His story has gone down in history as one of the most well-known Bible stories, and it shows us his great character and faith.
We need to acknowledge that our temptations will not disappear, but that doesn’t mean that with God’s power we can’t conquer them.
Prayer: Lord, still my hand and curb my mind when temptations arise. Help me to live for Your glory in all I do. Amen.
What is your greatest temptation?
