Today I was talking to a mother about her child. He is now three and finds life difficult at times. When this happens he is quick to scream and hit and throw a tantrum.
She told me that she knew it was only a phase and everyone has reminded her that it will pass but that wasn’t very helpful advice for her in the midst of her frustration.
Whether your baby is not sleeping, your toddler is throwing tantrums, your child isn’t learning to read, your teenager is giving you the silent treatment or your young adult is throwing their money away, you can’t help but worry. And being told it will pass is not always helpful.
In fact, if anyone knows the meaning of time and seasons it’s God. He created them! But even He doesn’t say “it will pass”. What He does is sit with us through the pain. He is present.
And that’s how we should respond to anyone who is struggling too. We don’t have to have the answers, often there are no answers. All we have to do is be present for them.
Lord, thank you for always being there for me. In the highs and lows you are there beside me. Amen.
Who needs you to be sitting beside them at the moment?
