It Wasn’t Me

I don’t actually have an answer for them.

Exodus 6:1-30

Explore: Many of you will have heard my story of twelve years of infertility before we were surprised by a pregnancy. When people, particularly those who are also suffering with infertility, ask what we did differently I feel bad that I don’t actually have an answer for them.

Over the last twelve years we have tried everything. I’ve gone on special diets, taken up exercise regimes, tried fertility treatments and consumed various natural remedies.

I’ve fasted and prayed and had other people pray for us. I’ve taken holidays, reduced my stress and brought other children into our home. But still nothing changed.

Years later, out of the blue, I fell pregnant.

I can say with great confidence that I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary for this pregnancy to take place.

Application: When the Egyptians were freed from the crushing hand of Pharaoh it was Moses whom God spoke through. And yet, as we read what happened in the lead up to this momentous occasion, we see it was by no means Moses’ doing that caused Pharaoh to concede.

Moses stumbled when he spoke, he was hesitant to take on the job and he would have much preferred if someone else was in the lead. In this way we see God prominence and ultimate power.

Now, I don’t have an answer to why we were infertile for twelve years, but I can say it was not through my power that we conceived in the end.

God has given us many gifts and abilities but let us never forget that God is God and by His mighty hand He holds ultimate power and strength in every situation.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are Lord. May I never confuse my God given gifts with Your ultimate power and authority. Thank You for including me in Your plan here on earth through the calling You have on my life. Amen.

When have you seen God’s mighty hand at work?
