Sometimes an ending is abruptly thrust upon us.
Reference: “When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” John 19:30 NIV
Explore: Endings can be filled with so many different emotions.
The end of a work campaign can be such a relief but can also bring up emotions of regret, lack of purpose and let down.
The end of a relationship may bring an element of freedom but is more likely to make you feel bereft and lonely.
The end of a life often gives a relief from pain and suffering but the grief and loss of those left behind can be devastating.
There are times when we make the decision for something to conclude, however, sometimes an ending is abruptly thrust upon us.
Application: When Jesus said, “It is finished” it brought many different emotions. In fact, it still illicits a plethora of emotions from people hearing it today.
I wonder how Jesus felt. Relief He no longer had to fight the religious leaders? Sadness for the relationships He had built with the disciples?
Success that His life had fulfilled scripture and prophecy? Joy that He had followed God’s plan? Peace that He could now reside back at the right hand of God?
Maybe all of these and more!
As parts of our own journey come to an end, may we be willing to embrace the emotions right to the end. Be assured God is with you through all events and He has a greater purpose for your life.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for our journeys. While they may be painful and hard at times, we pray we will learn from each leg of the journey to become stronger followers of You. Amen.
What journey has recently come to an end for you? How did it make you feel?
