Today we still have people predicting when the world will end and, so far, they’ve all been wrong!
Reference: Be on guard! Be alert ! You do not know when that time will come. (Mark 13:33 TNIV)
Explore: There were some odd jobs that needed doing around our house that were beyond our capabilities. So we asked for a handy man to come over to assess what work needed doing.
The best time for him to come to our place was early Saturday morning. While we have two young boys who get up very early, I was aware that we may still be lazing around the house when the gentleman arrived.
When the day came, our boys did wake up early, but my husband and I were more conscious of what we did. We got out of our pyjamas early, we made sure the area in the house that needed work was clear, and we kept a constant ear out for a car coming down the drive.
We didn’t know exactly when he was arriving, but we were as ready as we could be for when he arrived… whenever that would be.
Application: Even when Jesus was walking on the earth, the people were exploring what more was to come. Jesus explained the second coming to them and what they were to expect.
Today we still have people predicting when the world will end and, so far, they’ve all been wrong! This is no surprise as Jesus said no one will know when it will take place.
But this is not the only thing that Jesus said about it. He told us to be on our guard.
There is more for us to do for Christ than just wait, like we were for our tradesman to arrive. If Jesus was to return today would you feel that you’ve done everything you could to build the kingdom?
There is always more we can do, more we can forgive, and more we can love. I’m striving to live my life in such a way that when The Lord does return I can look back and see that I’ve done my best to be like Him.
Prayer: Lord, we may not know when You shall return, but may we live each day as if You’re coming back tomorrow. Amen.
What would you change in your life if you knew Jesus was to return soon?
