In My Hands

To think that I could hold a complete human being in my 2 hands

Isaiah 40:1-31

Reference: v.12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand,
or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?
Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket,
or weighed the mountains on the scales
and the hills in a balance? (TNIV Bible)

Explore: If you ever want to see a miracle from God then hold a newborn baby in your arms.

A close friend of mine has just had a tiny baby girl. When I went to visit them in hospital I couldn’t stop staring at this amazing new creation.

I put one hand behind her head and the other one at the base of her back and held her out in front of me so I could see her in full length. While she was miniature in form, she had everything she needed.

10 tiny fingers and 10 tiny toes, 2 eyes that could barely open, 1 mouth that would search for something to suckle and 1 torso that held all her essential organs.

Such an amazing creation, and to think that I could hold a complete human being in my 2 hands.

Application: When I read through Isaiah 40 I cannot help but be reminded of God as the great Creator. Although I only chose 1 verse to highlight as my ‘Reference’ I could have used every single verse in chapter 40, one of my favourite chapters in the whole Bible.

However, I went with verse 12 as I love the imagery of God ‘measuring the waters in the hollow of His hand’.

As I held my friend’s newborn baby in my hands I felt strong and in control. How much greater are God’s hands as He holds all of creation?

Sometimes we can doubt God and question whether He is really there for us. Isaiah 40 is a great reminder of how great and majestic our God is.

God is not to be doubted, we are not to worry about whether He will be present in our lives or not.  Our Creator can measure the waters in the hollow of His hand, I’m pretty sure He can hold our lives in there too.

Prayer: Lord, we will never be able to fully understand the immensity of Your power and might. May we not doubt Your ability to hold each and every one of us in Your hands. Amen.

Do you trust God fully with Your life? What do you need to put in the hollow of God’s hands?
