What Is More Important?

It is easy for us to get caught up in the busyness of life

Philippians 3:1-14

Reference: But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. (Philippians 3:7 NIV)

Explore: Two years ago I was struggling with making a significant decision in my life. I felt prompted to take on more foster children, but I realised I would not be able to work as much if that was the case.

I love to work as it makes me feel like I am contributing to the world, and so, this desire for progress was holding me back.

I can remember thinking that I had done seven years of university study, I had two degrees and an Advanced diploma, I held the ability to make a positive impact in an organisation, and I was going to throw that all away.

It was at that point I remembered this passage in Philippians. I flipped through, quickly found it, and was reminded what was really important in life.

Application: The writer of the Philippians gives us his full credentials – a resume that far outweighs mine – but then says it is all rubbish compared to living for Christ.

It is easy for us to get caught up in the busyness of life and to lose sight of what is important to God. Whether you’re going through a “normal” day at work, or trying to make a significant decision, this passage from Philippians is a good reminder of how we should think through our choices.

Prayer: Lord, life is not always clear, but You were always straight forward in how You lived Your life. May I strive to honour You, over all things, in my life. Amen.

What priorities do you often put in front of God?
