I’m Terrible!

If that was the case, none of us would be Christians!

Luke 5:27-32

Reference: After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,” Jesus said to him, (‭Luke‬ ‭5‬:‭27‬ NIV)

Explore: I’ve just been through a time of real doubt. I’ve got to the point where I’ve questioned some really basic decisions and hesitated when it has come to my confidence.

A number of things have attributed to this doubt. Firstly, I was put in a position where I had to reveal more about myself than I would have liked to someone I didn’t know so well. And secondly, I had an argument with a close friend where I lost trust in a valuable relationship.

And thirdly, I find this area of self doubt is where Satan gets to me most easily. When I doubt myself I lose the confidence to live out my call and speak out for Christ.

I know this isn’t the way God has called me to live, but getting those negative thoughts out of my head can be really challenging.

Application: From the sounds of the sermons and altar calls I have heard over my life time, it seems that I’m not alone when it comes to a lack of belief in ourselves. It seems one of the main reasons someone doesn’t come to Christ is because they don’t think they’re worthy.

If that was the case, none of us would be Christians! In fact, even the disciples wouldn’t have made the cut.
Levi was a tax collector. Some of the lowest regarded characters of the time. Even the church leaders wouldn’t associate with them.

And yet, Jesus asks him to follow.

From the testimonies I have heard and from the Bible passages I have read – even from Jesus’ very own lineage – it is clear God accepts everyone. There is nothing you have done in the past that could cause Him to turn from you.

The only thing stopping you from connecting with God is you. When He calls, don’t hesitate to follow.

Prayer: Lord, help me to see I am worthy in Your eyes. Amen.

How is your self-confidence going at the moment?
