She looked at me with disbelief
Reference: v.26 I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own people, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. (TNIV Bible)
Explore: When I was in Grade 4 I decided that I should be more forward about my faith. I had a friend, Jodie, who I had never told about my belief in God.
I’d spoken to a number of adults about what I should say, but they didn’t seem very helpful. So I realised I was going to have to take this one into my own hands.
One day, just as we were about to line up to go back inside, I turned to Jodie and said, “I just think you should know, I’m a Christian and I believe in Jesus.” Jodie seemed a little taken aback.
She looked at me with disbelief, not understanding why I had blurted out my beliefs, and then pretty much ran off. At the time I thought I had experienced persecution first hand, however, now that I look back I think Jodie just didn’t understand where my little confession had come from.
Application: When it comes to evangelism, it’s hard to compete with the Apostle Paul. He put himself out there for all people. Sometimes he was embraced, but often he was persecuted… and truly persecuted, not just having a friend run off on him!
It’s not a competition as to who is the ‘best’ evangelist and there is not one way for us to share our faith. Everyone can use their different gifts and abilities to share the love of God in their own way.
It’s not about how you evangelise, it’s that we should take every opportunity to say it, show it and learn from it.
Prayer: Lord, each evangelistic opportunity brings us closer to You. May we strive to live our whole life in a constant state of sharing Your love, grace and mercy. Amen.
How can you be an evangelist today?
