I Remember…

I remember standing in front of a field that had big toilet paper letters spelling ‘MARRY ME?’

Psalm 111:1-10

Reference: v.10 He has caused his wonders to be remembered;
the Lord is gracious and compassionate. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: I remember waking up on Christmas morning with a stocking full of presents, always with an apple and orange at the bottom.

I remember sliding down the stairs on a mattress with my housemate and laughing until we nearly cried when we got to the bottom.

I remember when I was skiing down a run at Mt Hotham and everything just clicked into place and I finally felt coordinated for the first time on a pair of skis.

I remember going for a long drive with my dad in the car and reading him a brilliant short story by Roald Dahl about a con man pretending to be a priest.

I remember standing on some rocks with my best friend and sisters at the beach and being sprayed by the waves as they pummeled the shore.

I remember standing in front of a field that had big toilet paper letters spelling ‘MARRY ME?’ written on it and Cameron bending down on one knee with a jewelry box.

Application: Our lives are filled with memories. I am so blessed to have so many happy memories in my life already.

Each one of these memories reminds me of God’s wonder – acts of love; friendship; creation; humour; and creativity. Although He may not be so obvious, God is present in all our memories.

I have other memories where God is more centre stage.

I remember being on a beach mission and feeling so exhausted when Isaiah 40:31 came to mind and I instantly felt renewed.

I remember being so torn about making a huge decision and after going for a long walk and praying I felt a supernatural peace.

I remember being so upset after I was taken advantage of by a single mother and I heard God say to me, ‘You did it for me.’

Memories can be very precious to us. It’s these memories that I have of God which help me to continually have faith in my Creator, who loves me and desires to be a part of my life. It’s these experiences that I can explain to others to help point them to their Saviour too.

God is so amazing He is definitely worth remembering.

Prayer: Lord, You weave throughout my whole life. May I take a moment to stop and notice You in my past as well as in my present. Amen.

What is a memory you have from God?
