I Don’t Know You

Anna and Elizabeth have definitely been at the same events numerous times.

John 20:11-18

Reference: “At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.” John‬ ‭20:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: I have two friends from different social circles. While we don’t catch up all together very often, Anna and Elizabeth have definitely been at the same events numerous times.

The funny thing is, every time they see each other Elizabeth introduces herself to Anna like they’ve never met before. Anna is always polite, but chuckles to herself because they have already met.

It wasn’t until recently that Anna mentioned to me she must have been introduced to Elizabeth at least 10 times. She figures she just must not be very memorable!

Application: Some people are better at remembering things than others. And some people are more memorable than others too!

You would think out of all the people in the world, you would remember Jesus. But when Mary went to the tomb after Jesus’ death she thought His body had been stolen. She was not anticipating seeing Him walking and talking.

So, she assumed Jesus was the gardener.

When we are set in our ideas it’s hard for God, or anyone else, to convince us otherwise. Even when the evidence is right in front of us.

It’s easy for us to get a set view of who God is and how He would have us act. But our God is not absent and He is still willing to be engaged with us.

We just have to be open to His presence and willing to acknowledge Him when He calls our name.

Prayer: Lord, forgive us for our closed-mindedness. May we be open to You and Your call on our lives, even if it is different to what we expected. Amen.

When has God surprised you?

Linda. Just wanted to say how this DD is so good. I too worry that people are living in fear of something that is unlikely to happen I heard recently that “fear of terrorism is as luck of the lottery”. I felt that put this fear (as most fears) into perspective. Well done. Love Lynne
