I Am Unlovable

He had struggled to fit in and find a group of friends to connect with.

Isaiah 56:1-12

Reference: v.4-5 For this is what the Lord says:
“To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths,
who choose what pleases me and hold fast to my covenant—
to them I will give within my temple and its walls
a memorial and a name
better than sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name that will endure forever. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: I recently heard about a young boy named Joshua who had just moved to a new school. He had struggled to fit in and find a group of friends to connect with.

As his birthday was coming up, he decided to have a party and invite the whole class along. A birthday is always a fun time of celebration and a great way of creating memories together.

Joshua made the party invitations and diligently handed them out at school. Now all he had to do was wait until his special day.

Only one week until his party and Joshua still had not received any replies. His mother was so disappointed for him and Joshua was starting to feel the pain of being left out.

Application: Joshua is not the only person to have a story like this one. It may not be surrounding their birthday party, but everyone has felt left out or forgotten about at one point in their life.

The most comforting thing in the whole world is knowing that God never forgets us or leaves us out. He loves us so much that He wants to connect with every single person.

It doesn’t matter if you didn’t have many friends, whether you’ve done some terrible actions, or if you have a horrid addiction. God still loves you and does not forget you.

Isaiah 56 addresses two groups of people who would have been considered unlovable and of a lower standing than the people of God. And yet God tells them a different story.

God still says to those who are on the outer and feel rejected, “Obey me and I will love you beyond anything you have ever known. I will give you a name, a purpose and a destiny and no one will ever be able to take that away from you.”

We still go through times when we feel alone and unloved. It’s at those times we need to obey God with all our hearts and we will see His love and peace surround us like nothing else we have ever experienced.

Prayer: Lord God, there is nothing like Your love. We try to fill our lives with possessions and money, but all we need is Your love, hope and peace. Amen.

When have you felt unlovable? Read verses 4-7 again and remind yourself of all that God has in store for you.

I never heard, Adrian! Breaks your heart to think that a child goes lonely on his birthday.
I do know that his parents were aware of it and were doing their best to make his day special 🙂
